Big O just happy to witness a win really…

I know this is a hockey website, but it’s MY website, so go fuck yourselves, I’ll write about pull-out couches if I want to.

I went to the game yesterday, simply because I have a Latino friend and he said he’d make me grow facial hair in perfect symmetry if I didn’t. Not that I was gona protest really, I’m a maniacal soccer fan.

I won’t lie and say I expected the atmosphere to be the way it was. Booes when Santos players went forward with the ball, protesting referee decisions, cheering for a good Impact tackle and decibel levels of course reached their highest of the night when the two goals hit the back of the net. You just had the feeling that Montreal wasn’t just a soccer crowd, it was a knowledgable soccer crowd.

I don’t understand how the MLS can turn down Montreal’s bid while they still consider Ottawa’s. Ottawa, on one hand, have no stadium and no established fan base. In Montreal, on a wednesday night in February, 55 thousand people showed up to witness history.

Yeah, it was a CONCACAF Champions League game - a very special occasion - but the people there were truly into it. The players fed off the energy and you could tell. Another fact to look at is that seven games of the last U20 World Cup were also in Montreal, and no less than 3 of them drew sell out crowds as well. So don’t sit there in your pretty little V-bug and tell me that soccer doesn’t have a place here.

Huge props and V8 juices and pull-out couches to all the Impact players and fans for showing up last night, and let’s all go down to MEHICO to watch them finish this thing!
