Carbo 2011
News came through this morning, and they’re good. Guy Carbonneau has decided to put pen to paper and he’s staying on for this season and two more, should the contract run full term. The number of zeros on the check wasn’t revealed, but that’s not the topic. I like Carbo - he’s young, he’s smart, he’s got the rugged good looks that Matt Damon doesn’t have has and he’s not scared to shake things up, something which I think is very important for an NHL coach to do.
The team missed the playoffs by 2 points in his first season, and last year we would have made it to the Conference finals if not for some freak goaltending by Martin Biron (French Canadians, eh). Carbo also finished runner-up to Bruce Boudreau for the Jack Adams last year, and he’s only improving as he gains experience. To sum things up, this is very good news. Guy Carbonneau knows how to manage this team, and maybe even more importantly, he knows how to manage each of his players.
