Apparently, Pavel Valentenko has been supporting his whole family since he was 15, and he left for Russia because his AHL salary just wasn’t enough. He was earning rougly 150,000 before taxes in Hamilton.
You really can’t blame the guy if that’s the case, and it’s not the end of the world. The Habs suspended him without pay for breaching a contract, but we still retain his rights if he ever decides to return and the situation allows it.
