Montreal Canadians 4-1 Phoenix ‘Man do you know how much it sucks playing Hockey in goddamn Arizona?’ Coyotes

TopShelf’s Completely professional GameReport:

Alex Tanguay scored 2, Carey Price made 28 saves and Montreal ran out 4-1 victors over Wayne Gretzky’s Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night at the Bell Centre. The Canadiens have now won 4 on the trot and are looking very good.

On a night where perhaps most of the focus was on Chris Higgins probably coming back to the lineup, Alex Tanguay didn’t hurt his cause when he scored 2 terrific goals to put Montreal in a commanding position. First, Saku Koivu spotted Tanguay in the crease unmarked and sent the puck over to the former Calgary man, who had no trouble one-timing it past Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.

Koivu then put the Canadiens 2 up when, following a spectacular pass by Andrei Markov, he found the Coyotes’ netminder at his mercy and made no mistake to double the home team’s lead. But if up to that point the game had gone perfectly according to the Habs’ gameplan, what was to follow made the team’s fans fear the worst.

Carrying the puck into the Phoenix zone, Andrei Kostitsyn was checked hard into the boards by defenseman Kurt Sauer. The older Kostitsyn brother laid motionless on the ice for several minutes before he was helped up to his feet by teammates and team doctors alike. No further word on the status of the young winger so far.

Montreal enforcer Georges Laraque then went looking for a bit of payback when he asked Sauer to scrap, but the defenseman didn’t fall for it. Instead opting to go with the clearly smaller but still capable Tom Kostopoulos. Laraques still managed to find a partner to tango though, dropping the gloves against Todd Fedoruk before the period was over.

That wasn’t before Montreal doubled their lead though. Once again it was Tanguay with his second of the night, beating Bryzgalov with a high shot into the top of the net and then Lang with a fortunate bounce, found the puck at his stick and wired a shot past the Phoenix netminder to put the Habs 4 goals up.

Shane Doan, Carey Price’s cousin, then managed to ruin the young Montreal goalie’s shutout bid with a marker 10 mins before the end of the game, but it was a case of too little too late for the Coyotes as they dropped a third game in a row.

TopShelf’s notes o’ da day:

-Alex Tanguay is awesome, awesome, awesome. He fits in so well with Saku. They’re both so little and so quick, it’s adorable!

-Carey Price made an incredible save on his cousin. Expect the fireworks to be present at the next Christmas party.

-Did you see that pass Markov made? Dude, that was like…Will Smith shit. Yes, it was THAT impressive.

-I really hope Andrei Kostitsyn is allright. Whether it was intentional or not, you cannot bring your arms that high up when you’re about to check a guy. And if Kurt Sauer wants to hit someone like that, he should be prepared to duke it out with our guys, something he clearly wasn’t willing to do when he refused to fight Laraque. Poor Kostopoulos had to take care of it instead.

-It’s fun when you can read people’s lips when they’re on TV. (Carbo “FUCKEN SHIT!”)

-It’s also fun when the team decides to play for a full 60 minutes.

-My prediction was close again. Tomorrow. 9am. Mise-O-Jeu.

-Um, where was Chris Higgins?
