Montreal Canadiens 1-2 Carolina ‘Fuck Sergei Samsonov’ Hurricanes
TopShelf’s completely Professional GameReport:
The Canadiens scored first for once, and Carey Price was spectacular but it still wasn’t enough as the struggling Habs fell by a score of 2-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Aside from facing a total of 48 shots, Price was stellar in giving his time a chance to win it over and over again. His teammates weren’t as implicated in the game though, and it showed as they were badly outplayed once more.
The first period was a combination of Price getting fired at from every angle possible for 18 shots and the Canadiens having a tough time building a play in their neutral zone. The only line to have any success was the 4th, who time and time again gave Cam Ward something to think about.
Montreal was surely happy to score with a minute on the clock in the middle period, and even more so that it was their powerplay that finally produced. Robert Lang received a pass in the slow from Alex Kovalev and the Czech centreman scored his 6th of the season to put his team one up. Carolina kept pushing forward, but Price frustrated them on every single occasion.
The score had largely flattered the Canadiens so far, with their lone goal coming against the run of play and due to a netminder who was in his zone on the night. But Price couldn’t do anything on what was to follow.
Sergei Samsonov, former Montreal winger and witout a goal in 18 games, put his team on level terms when he took a feed from Patrick Eaves on a 2-on-2 rush and beat Price with a snap shot. And if the Canadiens were still in the game at that point, Ray Whitney made sure to send the misfiring Habs home with nothing to show for their almost-effort.
Whitney gave his team a 2-1 advantage by putting an end to a busy sequence that started with Dennis Seidenberg’s slap shot that came off the back boards to Scott Walker, who missed the puck as he tried to shoot it from close range. The puck rolled to Whitney, and he pushed it high past Price for his fifth goal of the season.
Try as they could, the Canadiens couldn’t muster up any more offence and suffered their 5th loss in the last 7 games.
TopShelf’s notes o’ da day:
-We.Have.To.Keep.Things.Simple.
-”We came out with the attitude that we were going to shoot some pucks and crash the net a little bit more,” Samsonov said. “We really made an effort to try to put the puck on net from any position, and I think that kind of created the forecheck.” —- SURPRISE! 48 SHOTS! WOW! THAT’S HOW THEY DID IT!?
-Samsonov ‘a servi une tasse de cafe’ to Ryan O’byrne for his goal. Who needs some ice for that burn?
-12 thousand something people in attendance. GO CANES!
-It’s only November…
-yay…our powerplay scored…
-The players cannot be…or act so indifferent.
-Clone the 4th line.
