Montreal Canadiens 3-2 Carolina ‘Our best-looking player is Rod Brind’amour’ Hurricanes

TopShelf’s Completely professional GameReport:

Saku Koivu was the lone scorer in the shootout, and Carey Price stopped all 3 attempts as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Tuesday night.

For the second game in a row, Montreal let in the first goal when Anton Babchuk converted on the powerplay. The home team was quick to reply though, when Alex Kovalev took advantage of a turn-over to beat Cam Ward with a shot ino the top corner to level the scores.

Before the teams headed to their respective dressing rooms, there was still room for Montreal’s summer acquisition, Alex Tanguay, to put his new team ahead with a penalty shot. When Dennis Seidenberg was called for closing his hand on the puck in the crease, the former Calgary forward stepped up and made no mistake with a wrister past Ward.

After a scoreless and largely event-less second period, Matt Cullen tied it 40 seconds into the third 20 with a freak-ish goal after a long rebound was given by Carey Price. The Hurricanes then wasted a price-less opportunity when the Montreal net-minder took a delay of game penalty with 2 minutes to go, but they failed to capitalise and the teams headed to overtime.

An evenly contested overtime period was swung in Montreal’s favor when Eric Staal took a tripping penalty when he retaliated on Mike Komisarek following a hit by the defenseman, but a combination of poor execution and excellent goaltending once again by Cam Ward forced the shootout.

After Tomas Plekanec failed to convert and Price foiled Matt Cullen, the captain stepped up to give his team the victory and the 2 points.

TopShelf’s notes o’ da day:

-Is Brind’amour a man, or a robot of some kind programmed to win faceoffs? The man’s more comfortable in that circle than this girl.

-Sergei Kostitsyn has to start producing again. I imagine Bob talking some sense into him:
Gainey ” So uh, Sergei, you gona start scoring again or what?”
Sergei “Ah jes, or vat?!”
Gainey “Or you see me naked tonight”
Sergei “Jes sir!”

-We cannot not score on 5 on 3′s. That’s twice in 2 games. The powerplay has to get its act together. We were as clueless out there as Josh Hartnett at the Emmys. (yes, that makes sense)

-Was Tender Gender playing tonight?

-Carbo should buy the fourth line brand-new Audis.
