Montreal Canadiens 4-1 Calgary ‘FUCK YOU STAMPEDERS!’ Flames

TopShelf’s completely Professional GameReport:

Robert Lang scored two goals and added an assists, Matt D’Agostini continued the fairy-tale start to his career and the Montreal Canadiens took care of the Calgary Flames by handing them a 4-1 defeat Tuesday night at the Bell Centre.

On an evening where the Bell Centre was, for the first time in a long time, not filled to capacity due to heavy snow and traffic through which maneuvring was virtually impossible.

The Flames had lost 3 straight at the Bell Centre, and if they wanted a win tonight they surely didn’t get the start they would have liked.

Robert Lang turned his jets on when the game was 3 minutes old and got in behind the Flames defense, and when he squared the puck to Alex Tanguay in the crease it went off of Mark Giordano and beat Mikka Kiprusoff to give the Habs an early 1-0 advantage.

The Canadiens kept up the pressure and went for a second goal, but a combination of poor finishing and some amazing goaltending by Kiprusoff kept the Flames in it. Alex Tanguay was especially frustrated after accepting a nice feed from Alex Kovalev, the former Flames winger had the Finnish goaltender at his mercy, but the netminder managed to make the save and give his team a chance to get back in the game.

Rookie Matt D’Agostini then continued his incredible streak by scoring in a 4th game in a row. The Ontario native took control of the puck in the neutral zone, chipped it past two Calgary defensemen and used his speed to go in one on one against Kiprusoff. He then took the puck around the Flames netminder with one smooth fluid move and put the back in the back of the net for a simply sensational goal.

Two minutes later, Dustin Boyd got his team back in it by netting his 7th of the season. Andrei Markov gambled at the Calgary blue line and that allowed Jarome Iginla to venture inside the Habs’ zone unmarked, and he found the Winnipeg native who wired a beautiful wristshot past Jaroslav Halak who was getting his first start in 5 games in the Montreal net.

Lang then scored his second goal of the game to swing the momentum back in Montreal’s favor. More nice work from linemates Kovalev and Tanguay landed the puck on Lang’s stick in the Calgary crease, and the Czech centreman turned and fired past Kiprusoff to make the score 3-1.

Despite Calgary applying added pressure in the final period to try to get back into the game, Montreal put the final nail in the Flames’ coffin when Markov scored his 5th of the season. Robert Lang’s line once again did some very nice work in the offensive zone, and Markov took the point shot which appeared to have deflected off of Kovalev’s skate, but the goal remained under Markov’s name.

The final buzzer sounded shortly after, but not before a Markov hit on Dion Phaneuf which angered the Calgary defenseman’s teammates drew penalties for both teams.

TopShelf’s notes o’ da day:

-Sergei Kostitsyn disappointed me. Not that he played a bad game, I just thought he would be all over the place trying to make things happen.

-Mathieu Dandenault – according to the guys on L’Antichambre – broke his arm. Despite that, he got up, went in front of the net to protect his goalie and finished the play. Fucken awesome man!

-Todd Bertuzzi is a cunt.

-Halak was excellent, only thing that worries me when he plays is those rebounds man. YOU AIN’T NO STEVE NASH!

-Alex Kovalev had a great game. He’s been playing well, it just hasn’t been going in the back of the net for him. But as my good friend Benoit Brunet said, “Ca va finir par debloquer!”

-I really hope the powerplay ‘fini par debloquer’ too.

-The Flames were beaten after the first period.

-My reaction to the Matt D’Agostini goal on MSN:
I says:
WHAT THE FUCK

I says:
WHAT THE FUCK!

I says:
WHAT THE FUCK!

I says:
DID YOU

I says:
DID YOU SEE THAT!

I says:
WHAT THE FUCK MAN!
