Montreal Canadiens 6-2 Toronto ‘Mats Sundin doesn’t wana be a rental player. Noooo, of course not’ Maple Leafs
TopShelf’s completely Professional GameReport:
The Montreal Canadiens got started early and didn’t let up as they took it to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night by beating their second orginal six opponent in two nights.
The encounter saw more than 120 penalty minutes, living up to the pre-game ceremony honoring the great rivalry that is the Habs-Leafs.
But it took all of two and a half minutes for the Habs to open the scoring. Sergei Kostitsyn took the rebound that came off of Vesa Toskala in the Toronto net and wasted no time putting the loose puck home to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Less than three minutes later, Montreal kept it going. Maxim Lapierre, who had just gotten out of the penalty box, took advantage of Jeff Finger’s inability to keep the puck in the Canadiens zone and skated into a 2 on 1 with Robert Lang and the St Leonard native had no trouble beating Toskala between the pads.
Toronto were right back in it shortly after though when Tomas Kaberle’s point shot evaded the screened Halak to put the Leafs within one.
But there was more offense to come from the surging Habs. Tom Kostopoulos circled the net and fed the puck in front to a Guillaume Latendresse who was well positioned in the crease, and the Quebec native simply shot the puck into an empty net for his 7th of the season.
The second period was much more of the same, with the Habs adding to their lead on the scoreboard and more fists being introduced to jaws.
Alex Kovalev scored his 11th of the season and second in two nights when he took Andrei Kostitsyn’s pass and beat Toskala with a beautiful wrist shot to hand the home town team a 3 goal lead.
And if Robert Lang was the scorer last night at Madison Square Garden, he turned into the provider on this night.
The Czech centreman went in with good speed into the Leafs zone and squared the puck to the elder of the Kostitsyns who only had to tip the puck past Toskala.
The final period saw less penalty minutes but still had its fair share of incidents. First it was Max Pacioretty’s second career NHL goal which was the result of a right place-right time situation by the Connecticut native.
And with 90 seconds to go, Matt Stajan continued his superb work for Toronto this season by netting his 10th goal with Nik Antropov and the excellent Luke Schenn getting assists on the play.
But that wasn’t before more camaraderie was exchanged between Sergei Kostitsyn and Mikhail Grabovski.
TopShelf’s notes o’ da day:
-Lovely, lovely game!
-HEY MIKHAIL! WHAT’S ‘BLOW ME’ IN BELARUSSIAN, YOU ONE DICKED FAG!?
-On that very offensive note, I would like to express my disappointment at the Sergei/Grabovski fight not being allowed to happen. That would have been fucken EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-PIC!
-I think the iceberg that the Titanic crashed into had better positioning than Vesa Toskala tonight. OH YEAH I WENT THERE! I can make that joke because I can’t possibly offend anyone. I mean, the only survivor that’s still alive from the Titanic is like a 108 year old chick, and let’s face it, she probably doesn’t even visit this site.
-OH GEOOOOORGES! GEOOOOORGES!!!!!! Meet Brad May and Jamal Mayers. Jamal, Brad…meet YOUR MOTHERFUCKEN RAPIST!
-Yannick Weber’s gona be a star.
-If the 108 year old chick that is only survivor left alive from the Titanic visits this site, please don’t get offended. Thanks.
