The day Halak got laid : Habs 3-0 Canucks
Well, we’ve been saying for a while that we needed a goaltender to play consistently sexy for us, and Jaro has been doing that.
I wouldn’t say he stole the game for us the way he did in Colorago (those Avs are still dusting for fingerprints), but goddamn he was G-O-O-D! Good spells Good. You know how it is.
As expected, Mats ‘I’m Swedish, leave me alone!’ Sundin got the warmest reception of the night.
And when the business got down to the cucumbers, shit didn’t hit the fan. The turning point was definitely the 5 on 3 penalty kill, including the Halak save on the breakaway and as TurtlePleks gets outta the box, SAKU DIVES to harpoon the puck to the streaking Czech center, and try as he might, Gino couldn’t stop the puck in the Vancouver net. 1-0 Home Town team, and massive volcanic cheer ensues!
I’m not sure what was more bizarre in that sequence of events: the fact that Tomas Plekanec actually scored on a breakaway, the fact that the puck actually got to Pleks and didn’t hit some invisible patch of ice due to a Celine Dion concert/MotoCross show/Jehova’s witness meeting, or the fact that my good buddy Mitchell Ramirez saw into the future and predicted the goal. All in all, it was a weird night.
Oh yeah, did I not say Alex Burrows is a shitty little annoying cunt harper to play against? Good job getting that game misconduct with your family in the stands, you Burrows you!
It’s still worrying the amount of shots we give up, and if we didn’t have a goalie that was in the motherfucken zone like the Terminator was, the scoreline would have been very different… I think.
But there was also plenty of encouraging aspects about the game. For one, TurtlePleks is hot hot hot! He’s so hot, he uhhh… he’s burning! Greg Stewart can throw down with the best of ‘em, unless it’s T-Pain. That motherfucker can rap – put him in an Olsen twins music video and that shit’ll go platinum in an hour.
The powerplay is still breathing, and all that without the help of offensive force Georges Laraque!
Speaking of help, Andrei Markov had another stellar game. The guy does it all, and it’s very good that we’ve got him signed beyond this season.
Carolina, Florida and Buffalo all lost last night too. So all in all, the evening was as pleasing as watching that new Sidney Crosby Timbits commercial and the little girl going “NO! YOU CAN’T PLAY SIDNEY CROSBY!”
